Brett Ekblom, founder and president of Native Construction, was born with contracting in his blood. His father Pete Ekblom was a prominent local builder and utilities contractor in his own time. Pete came to the Florida Keys on vacation in 1948 and like so many since, never left. Brett grew up tinkering with his father's machinery and building elaborate tree forts (some with ocean views) in the beautiful undeveloped hardwood hammocks around his native island of Plantation Key.

As a teenager and young adult, Brett worked with his father and older brothers, learning from each the various aspects of the construction trade. He later leveraged his skills to independently finance his college studies, attending classes in Ft. Lauderdale during the week and spending weekends providing construction services to various clients in the Keys. Originally intending to pursue a career in aviation, Brett soon came to realize, in part due to a growing client base and demand for his services, that his talents may be better realized as a full-service contractor.

Today Native Construction provides contracting services to both commercial and residential customers. Brett's deep roots in the Florida Keys community and 'native' understanding of the Keys lifestyle inspire the first-class service and attention to detail that keep clients coming back time after time.
